Thank you to all those that tuned in to our COVID-19 Townhall last night. We appreciate Dr. Gloria for coming and answering the many questions we’ve received about vaccine distribution in Fairfax County. For those that missed it, a recording of the video is posted below.
A lot of good information was shared. Here are Dr. Gloria's answers to some of our most frequently asked questions:
1) Is there a plan to expand vaccine locations in Fairfax County?
- In a vaccine distribution such as this one that is limited by the number of vaccines, the goal is to have the most efficient set up. Right now that is achieved by having these large dispensing points where there is a high throughput while still allowing for social distancing and safety guidelines. Eventually, yes, the plan is to expand to more locations when more vaccines become available.
2) For those that have gotten the first dose, will there be enough vaccines for a second dose, and are the vaccines interchangeable?
-
If you have gotten your first dose, you are guaranteed a second dose in the recommended time frame.
- No. The vaccines are not interchangeable. For it to be effective you must take the same brand you took the first time.
3) Once you have applied for a vaccine and received confirmation of an appointment is there any further action required?
- No action is required unless a representative from the health department reaches out to you closer to your vaccination date.
- If, in the meantime, residents manage to get a vaccine elsewhere such as CVS, we just ask they cancel their outstanding appointment with the county.
4) Will vaccine data be readily available like the data on COVID cases in the form of a similar dashboard?
- Yes a vaccine dashboard is in the works.
5) If you have had COVID-19, should you still get vaccinated?
- Yes. CDC recommends everyone regardless of prior infection get the COVID Vaccine.
6) When will registration be available for group 1c?
- At this time there is no set date for group 1c. We will not be able to have an estimate until a large majority of residents in groups 1b and 1a are vaccinated
